After being initially inspired by the shadows of trees that she saw in the grass, she spent months exploring a process that did not convey the selected object in a two-dimensional form on canvas. The subject instead transforms into a re-creation of itself in which the painting becomes the carrier of it's individual interpretation of the subject, particularly when the subjects are alive or perishable for example, like humans or fruits. Alexa Meade's painting style, which is very ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only thing from her work that is preserved is her photograph. Both photographic and painting techniques are so closely coordinated that the result is an unflat, 2-dimensional space, which achieves trompe-l'oeil. In this, the third dimension is only visible in specific areas that are close to the eyes or hair. Meade will sometimes integrate her painted model into the surrounding three-dimensional environment and allows them to interact within their own world. The boundaries between performance, photography, and installation can be dissolved.
